1) a book costs $129.95 with a sales tax rate of 8%. what is the total cost of the book ?
to find out the total cost you need to multiply: $129.95*(1.08)
2) a car rental agency charges a fee of $35 per day plus $.20 for each mile driven. how much will it cost to the car for 6 days and drive 800 miles ?
($35 * 6 days) + (.20 * 800 miles)
3) length of a rectangle is 3 cms. longer than the width. find the dimensions of the rectangle if it’s area is 6 cm^2.
think about the length and widths that would multiply together to become 6cm2!
4) 3 shirts and 2 pants cost $50. 2 shirts and 3 pants cost $80. what is the cost of one shirt and one pant ?
figure out the difference between the first two amounts to give you a hint.
5) suppose a video store charges non-member $3 to rent a video. a membership costs $21 and then videos cost only $1.50 to rent. how many videos would you need to rent in order to justify a membership?
figure out the difference in fixed cost ($21) and variable costs ($1.50 per video) compared to no fixed cost and $3 per video. Play around with the numbers!
6) one number is 25 more than a second number. the sum of those numbers is 106. find the two numbers.
so… x+25 = y and x+y=106, so: x+ (x+25) = 106
7) the longest loaf of bread ever baked was 2132 ft. 2.5 inches. if a loaf was cut into half inch slices, how many slices of bread would there have been ?
divide the total by 0.5 (half an inch)
500pi
——– met^3 of LNG? use V = 4
3 — pi R^3 where is the radius of the container.
sorry.. I’m not sure what the question says at the end here.
9) a ladder is 25 ft long. the ladder needs to reach to a window that is 24 ft. above the ground. how far away from the building should the bottom of the ladder be placed ?
think triangles!!
10 ) there is a large building on fire. fire trucks from two different stations respond to the fire. one station is 1 mi. east and 2 mi. north of the fire. how far apart are the two fire stations?
again, triangle!
1. 140.35
2. 370
6. 40.5 and 65.5
That’s it! You can do the rest.
Sorry, hon, math was never my strong suit, and I always hated those thought problems, as they used to call them. If you’ve had any algebra at all, you might be able to figure these out by putting them in the form of an equation. I’d like to help, but I’m afraid I’d be giving you the wrong answers. Anyone else out there, who’s a math genius??
You really need to do your own homework…. It is a way that you can learn, and pass school. Although, asking questions and having other people do your homework for you, is rather innovative – it defeats the purpose of actually learning and doing the work yourself. It is a form of cheating. And, you really do need to problem solve these questions for yourself… Good luck. Just put your head down and concentrate.
Also – next time – you should put them in the Math section not the word play section…. the difference between English language and Math is a pretty good example of why you should do your own homework!!
1. 140.346 dollars
2. 370 dollars
3. impossible unless it is a very very long decimal
4.GOSH BITCH DO UR OWN HOMEWORK
I’m no math whiz but some of these are simple calculations. Some are basic calculations that you will actually use in normal life. It’s okay to ask for help here, but it won’t help you understand how you do the work. It will handicap you in the long run, so you should let your teacher know you aren’t getting it. Also, your parents should be aware; maybe they can get a tutor for you.
